the factory in Kadawatha

Our co-workers in Sri Lanka

The fabric is transported by boat to Dem Collective´s own factory in Kadawatha, Sri Lanka, where the garments are sown by Athule, Wasanthi and the other co-workers.

Their salaries are based on actual living costs in Sri Lanka, and are therfore around three times higher than the national minimum wage. If a national holiday and a Poya day falls on a weekday full wages are paid. The salary is also paid regularly which is unusual in the conventional textile industry.

The working tasks rotate which is important for stimulation and brings inspiration. A working week at Dem´s factory is in avarage 37.5 hours.
